Governors
Welcome to the Governors' section of our school website
The Governing Body works to foster inclusive, supportive learning environments where every child feels safe, valued, and eager to learn. We believe that all children deserve the best possible start in life, and by working collaboratively, we can enhance opportunities for both pupils and staff.
What is the Governing Body?
The School Board of Governors is a diverse group of dedicated volunteers who share a common commitment to Fleet Wood Lane School, its staff, pupils, facilities, and the wider community. Each Governor brings unique skills and perspectives, united by a shared goal: to support our children in achieving their highest potential.
The full Governing Body meets at least once every term. The Headteacher serves as a professional advisor, while the governors delegate the day-to-day management of the school to the Headteacher.
The Governors focus on three core functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school to ensure that resources are managed efficiently.
We work alongside the Headteacher to help provide the highest quality education for our pupils by setting the strategic direction of the school, making decisions within the scope of our budget, and appointing the Headteacher and staff capable of realizing this vision.
Monitoring and Evaluation
We actively monitor and evaluate the school's progress through reports provided by the Headteacher and regular visits to observe the school environment firsthand.
Support and Collaboration
We collaborate closely with the Headteacher and staff, offering support and constructive challenge during regular meetings, ensuring the well-being and success of all pupils. We make visits to the school to see its operations in action.
The Governing Body is committed to supporting the Headteacher, staff, pupils, and parents, and we are always accessible through the School Office.

Mr Martin Bamforth | Chair of Governors | Originally from Yorkshire, I was raised in rural Cambridgeshire, I subsequently attended Agricultural College and a career across the food industry has followed including time spent working overseas. I am now involved in commodities procurement working for a major supplier to national retailers. Its over 10 years since I began my association with our school, firstly as a parent, then a parent governor and latterly as chair of governors. Throughout that time it has always been important to note the fundamentals of its existence, to educate and give our children the best experience possible during their time with us. We as governors bear the responsibility of setting the strategic goals of the school and holding the school accountable for the outcomes attained across the curriculum. |

With a background in engineering, business and people management, I have been able to contribute to various aspects of school governance. As a DIY enthusiast and an adult fan of Lego, I have been lucky enough to support our school in more practical ways also and I bring a creative and hands-on approach to problem-solving. In my current role as governor, I am focused on enhancing our schools culture and prioritising staff wellbeing. I firmly believe that happy and motivated staff bring more enthusiasm into the classroom, creating an engaging learning environment for our children. We are so fortunate to have a dedicated and hardworking team of staff members from within our local community and I am immensely proud of their contributions to our small community school. |
